The "Goofy Goober" song is hilarious and the rock version was pure gold! I screamed like a little girl when watching this movie made me fall to my knees with such pleasure. But it's a cartoon and not everything has to be logical but I'll accept that.Īnd of course the soundtrack is great, for a Nickelodeon film.

And the live-action scenes also were fun, but left me with a few questions like why doesn't the scuba diver (the Cyclops) ever take his helmet and suit off, how would free tickets be locked away in a treasure chest found by pirates, why the dead fish automatically come back to life after sprayed by water, and how David Hasselhoff was able to go through the water like a speed boat and wasn't mobbed by fans of Baywatch. Krabs temporarily so SpongeBob and Patrick would make it back in time.
One of my favorite bits is seeing Mindy the Mermaid (Scarlett Johannson) as this mermaid with glasses and instead of being a traditional princess/mermaid like say Ariel, she's more focused on encouraging our heroes to complete their mission and even stalls the execution of Mr. And of course Plankton had hired a hit-man named Dennis (Alec Baldwin) to "step" on our heroes before they can get the crown from the dreaded Shell City. Krabs for it so Neptune would freeze him until he fries him in the next 6 days if SpongeBob and Patrick don't get the crown in time. Krabs, comes up with his Evil Plan Z, to steal Neptune's crown and frame Mr. Anyway, Plankton after numerous failings of trying to get the Krabby Patty secret formula from Mr. Puff and SpongeBob's pet snail Gary were reduced to cameos and had maybe a few lines, so it was more welcome when we got the sequel 11 years later. Other characters such as Sandy Cheeks, Mrs. Also, SpongeBob was bummed out for not being the manager of the new restaurant, "The Krusty Krab 2", but by the end he becomes the hero and the new manager of the new restaurant as he took it from grumpy old Squidward. Along the way, they encounter rough thugs, monsters, a contract killer sent to stop them, and a deep-sea diver out to turn them into "humorous dioramas". The film finds Spongebob and Patrick embarking on an epic journey to recover the malevolent King Neptune's (who doesn't look or sound like in the show, as he's voiced by Jeffrey Tambor) crown, which the evil Plankton stole and framed Mr. The film is every bit as hysterical as the very best episodes of the television show, featuring some of the most random, bizarre, and completely ridiculous humor ever put on film, and it probably helps that this always made for my favorites episodes of SpongeBob.

A part of me rejoiced over the very idea of feature-length SpongeBob, yet another part of me was very much worried that this would turn out to be another run-of-the-mill kids movie full of fart jokes and supposedly "funny" scenes where the characters suddenly start dancing to some Britney Spears song.

When I heard there was going to be a film based on this wonderful show after seeing the trailer for it when I saw Shrek 2 in the theater, I wasn't quite sure how to feel. Well, needless to say, I've been a big fan of SpongeBob since the beginning.
And with A-list celebrities including Scarlett Johannson, Alec Baldwin and David Hasselhoff, SpongeBob finally became a movie-star. Feeling less like an extended episode and more like an actual film, The Spongebob SquarePants Movie features much of the same silliness the show offered but in a greater caliber on a nearly Hollywood level of action. It was November 2004 when the world was treated to the first SpongeBob movie and my brother and I and my baby sister were treated to seeing Nickelodeon's top star finally make his big-screen debut, after Nickelodeon had scored big time with The Rugrats, but not so much with Hey, Arnold! or the Wild Thornberrys.
